Cafe Titanic

I'm a big fan of Titanic and it's one of my favorite movies because of Leonardo's dreamy looks and incredible acting skills! Every time I watch it, I hope that Jack can survive this time around but he doesn't so I always burst in tears (enough to drown the Titanic hihihi), anyways I digress... So when I found out about Cafe Titanic, I was instantly curious. Although it has nothing to do with Leo, it does have something to do with another love of my life: FOOOOOOD!

445 Rue Saint-Pierre
Montreal, QC H2Y 2M8

I visited Cafe Titanic with Phoebe shortly before leaving for Cuba. We were browsing brunch photos late at night and I remembered that I wanted to visit this place because I read raving reviews on Yelp. Because it was late at night, I accidentally remembered the wrong address so when we got to Old Port, we were very lost : P Since none of us have a data plan, we stumbled around looking for leaked spots of Wifi (too cheap to buy a drink at Van Houtte and abuse their wifi)! We magically found a random spot in the middle of the street that had wifi connection so we googled its real address.

Cafe Titanic is located underground on one of those side streets that aren't too interesting looking and you wouldn't have noticed it if you passed by.

Cafe Titanic is actually a cafeteria with a laid back mood. We got there a bit before lunchtime to avoid the crowds. It was completely empty when we walked in but the food was fresh outta the oven!

*looks around* No Jack in the vicinity : C

Phoebe got a Mac n Cheese that was fresh and hot, it was the most delicious mac'n cheese my mouth has ever met! I'm drooling just thinking about its cheesy flavors <3 The plate was pretty big too! I'm definitely coming back for it!

I got an overflowing veggie pesto sandwich. The first few bites were pretty good but there was a weird taste half way through so I don't know what to think of it. It was so big that I couldn't even finish half! I was so full and packed the rest for home.

Even though the cafeteria is in a basement, it is brightly lit : ) *photographer's pet peeve when there isn't enough light for my shot >: B*

I know Olive & Gourmando is a very popular sandwich shop in the Old Port but people have got to come to Titanic because they also offer delicious sandwiches (according to Yelp) and THE MAC AND CHEESE IS GODLY! The service was super friendly too : )

Sparrow

YAY I just finished putting together my stage paper and powerpoint for my presentation : ) Finally, I can breathe a little bit!  Continuing from last post, Miss Adri and I met up to eat brunch at Sparrow. This place has been receiving a lot of hype online so we wanted to check it out, to see if it lives up to its hype! When we got there, the place was full so the hostess asked us to come back in 30 minutes. No problem, since it's right next to some really cute stores.

When we came back 30 minutes later, we had to wait another 15 minutes before we got properly seated. With such long wait times, you'd expect the food to be amazing right? Well... it sure looked amazing but the two dishes Miss Adri and I got were very plain.

Their menu isn't that extensive although the choices are pretty unique (chicken and waffles?) and the prices are a bit steeper than your usual brunch places.

Miss Adri looking pretty in her new hairdo : ) Everyone's going short, I feel like chopping my hair too!!! Anyways, I digress

I got pulled pork and Adrienne got huevos rancheros with a melon juice.

You can tell who's the more adventurous one outta us two HEHE! The only thing I liked about my plate was the small hashbrown balls because the english muffin was way too hard and the pulled pork didn't taste special. Adrienne's huevos rancheros looked like a plate of goo combined with a piece of really really REALLYYYY hard pita bread. There was no texture or consistency (apart from the hardass pita) to Adrienne's plate so I didn't like it very much. It felt like eating soup on a plate with a fork : /

It seems like I'm being more critical than usual :P I'm not dismissing Sparrow and I'd definitely give it another go (once my wallet is replenished) but I didn't enjoy the plates we picked. At least the service was really good : )

Thought that the bathroom looked really cool with its slanted ceiling!

Since I work in restauration, I know that there are some bad days (when your food isn't that fresh) and some good days (when your food is super fresh) so maybe we came on a bad day? It was quite crowded. Although I think huevos rancheros just aren't my thing, I would like to try the other items on the menu!

Dreaming of Morocco

During our Japan trip, Lily and I met Maru at our hostel in Tokyo. Since he was a fellow Canadian we hung out together for most of our stay in Tokyo. Maru is from Toronto and he decided to drop by Montreal for some relax time. And lemme tell you that we relaxed with some good food&dessert, a walk in the park and shisha to top off the night!

Disclaimer: I am aware of the dangers of tobacco and smoking Shisha therefore I do not promote the practice. I am only giving a subjective review of a Shisha bar and I suggest that you only try it if you're informed about the consequences and health risks associated with smoking.

124, rue Prince-Arthur E, corner Coloniale
Le Plateau-Mont-Royal (metro Sherbrooke)

If it weren't for Maru, we would've passed by this place without noticing it! Since it was dark and cold outside, Lily and I hurried to get to the metro but Maru stopped in his tracks and just walked into the restaurant. He asked the waiter if they had shisha and sat down : P Lily and I peeked our heads in and feared that we were gonna have a heavy bill. Turns out, a shisha head with three coals costed only 12$, our tea set was 5$ and the total came up to 20$ with taxes for the three of us! So cheap considering that they probably spent a fortune on their interior decor : O They weirdly didn't have a menu and their selection of flavors was small but I find that they all end up tasting/smelling the same after a while. We got the most popular flavor: apple.
The last shisha place I went with my friends did not have an atmosphere as nice as this place and was much more expensive (everyone was obliged to buy something).

All the couches were lined with beautiful squishy pillows in jewel tones giving Feyrouz a very warm and inviting ambiance  : ) There were candles, wine glasses and china placed on every table and can I just give them props for keeping it oh so clean? I tend to pay a lot of attention on cleanliness of pillows and soft seating areas because they are usually dirty from too many butts sitting on 'em but this place felt luxurious and clean : }

Look at that gorgeous mouth piece! I wanted to swirl it around like a magical genie wand~

Calcifer coming outta the smoke~

Entertained by the way the waiter pours tea : ) He kept going up and down; apparently this pouring technique is used to produce a foam on the tea.
The waiter was friendly and attentive, he jokingly said: "please don't take my face in the picture, I don't want to end up on facebook haha"

Beautiful Egyptian drawings on the bong next to some sweet sweet Moroccan mint tea.

The waitress in the back was wearing a gorgeous traditional dress, she was super pretty too : 3

Lily trying to get the genie out of the lamp ; - D HAHA doesn't Maru look so much like the genie from Aladdin? Plus he's wearing blue!

We made a pact that in winter 2015, we'll go to Morocco together! Now that I've written this on my blog, there is no turning back!

Look at the gorgeous ceramic sinks with Lilies : 3

Feyrouz was amazing and I'm definitely going to try their food next time! If you're ever in Montreal and you're looking for a clean and affordable place to smoke Shisha, I highly recommend this place!

Goodbye's

Yesterday, over cocktails in mason jars and good old greasy grub, we celebrated the start of a new beginning for two friends; whom recently having graduated are flying in two different directions. It makes me happy and nostalgic to think that it has been 5 years since I've known these people (first year of Cegep). At first, we were merely classmates that exchanged glances or passed papers around in class and now they have become friends. One of them is going into optometry in Florida and the other is going to become an English teacher in South Korea for a whole school year!
For this special occasion we went to celebrate at a new pub that recently opened in Quartier Dix30: Le Mile Public House. Monkey's parents run a business in Dix30 and whenever they pass by this place, it is always filled with people and energy!

WARNING: food porn below, scroll down at your own discretion!

This place is a fusion of old school rusty barn/farmland chic with contemporary liveliness of the city. We had to line up for 25 minutes as they do not accept reservations (unless you're a big number of people). Even when we walked out at 9:30pm, the line was long!

A lot of the reviews online complained about the food and it's true that it is nothing spectacular but it's definitely not as bad as some of the reviews claim. The service was a bit slow but they were friendly (gotta admit the place was PAAACKED).

Well-known for their cocktails in huge mason jars! Andy's drink on the left that gave us mixed feelings: we didn't know if we liked it or not, there was an awkward after taste lingering. Monkey got the red drink, it had a long spanish name that I cannot remember. It was actually pretty tasty!

I wasn't kidding about the giant mason jars!

Thank goodness it's the weekend! The week felt extremely long, there are so many problems at work with no solutions because everyone is so stubborn and unwilling to cooperate! I'm so mentally tired ~____~

Pretty Vy : )

Andy recently dyed his hair blond, then he decided to torture his hair even more by dye-ing it ash grey a few days later! This guy never leaves his hair alone, it has been all the shades of a rainbow!
If you're reading this Andy, I'm expecting blue or green hair once you come back from Korea!

Andy's duck poutine! It was pretty good and a huge portion at that! I feel like I have too many pictures of poutines on my blog now XP

Monkey and I both got a gourmand burger; it comes with the usual burger ingredients except that there's also an onion ring and deep fried pickle!

I'm not a big fan of burgers but this one I loved! The sundried tomatoes was the glue to this perfect burger recipe : 3

Vy and I jokingly agree that we love going to eat with our boyfriends because that means we get 2 for 1! We get to "taste" 2 different dishes >: ]

Wings even a man cannot finish! X-P *I'm looking at you Zhihao! You can be ashamed haha*

BLASPHEMY! THERE ARE LEFT OVERS? Actually, only the fries were left over. We forced ourselves to stuff the other food (the more expensive food) down our throats.

Recently, my phone died unexpectedly for a couple of days. When I went to get it replaced with an iphone, we find out that it is the charger that is broken : X So in the end, I didn't get a new phone *firstworldproblems*
I can't imagine the day I get an iphone, I'd be simultaneously holding my DSLR and phone trying to get a good shot before allowing Monkey to eat, he'd die X-P. For now, I will just steal the iphones of my friends and take ridiculous pictures while they're not looking ;D ;D ;D

We got the best seat in the place! It was out on the terasse (the whole reason we wanted to eat there) with a big table and benches (for the ladies) and much more leg space than all the other people kekeke!

Monkey was sweet and treated me to the pricey food because he knows that I foolishly mismanaged my money again ;___; THANK YOU FATTY!

Hit & Miss

I always feel that ordering from Asos is a tricky business yet I let myself gamble hoping that it would be different this time around. Like the last few times I ordered, it was a hit and a miss.

THE HIT:

This mini bodycon dress is from the UK brand River Island and it is simply amazing! I went into River Island last year when I was in the Netherlands and loooooveeee their styles!
Asos was having a sale so I got this dress for around 35$ The material is quite thick and tight so it holds all the love handles in >:-D I love the metallic details and it reminds me of something a modern Cleopatra would wear! I don't have any bold items in my closet so I thought: why not? This is by far the most daring dress I have.

THE MISS:

The metallic strap definitely grabbed my attention when I was browsing Asos! I also liked how the white straps criss-crossed each other. The sandals are very comfortable but they look quite chunky on my foot : P I hate it when something looks good alone but not on you >___< DARN IT!
So in the end, I'm quite disappointed with these shoes, I have no idea how I'm gonna incorporate them with my wardrobe but I'll figure it out D:

Online shopping is eating away my soul (and wallet)! I need to get another hobby D;
